Recommendations for System Restore on Reboot Software
System Restore on Reboot Software Recommendations
Computers in school computer labs or those used for daily classes often face significant system security threats and risks from improper operations. A single virus-infected USB drive from a teacher can cripple an entire computer, rendering it unusable for others.
Therefore, if a system can be restored to its previous state (including system files and configurations) every time it restarts, users can operate freely without worry during each session.
This type of software is known as Deep Freeze software. This article recommends two such tools, with download links provided at the end.
Seewo Deep Freeze
Seewo Deep Freeze software is no longer available for download from official channels. Seewo is a company dedicated to multimedia teaching solutions for school classrooms.
After installing Seewo Deep Freeze, select the drives you wish to protect, then restart your computer as instructed.
Your system will now be frozen and saved, reverting to its frozen state every time it boots up.
Please note: If you freeze the C drive, any new files saved to it will disappear after a restart. Therefore, it is recommended to back up your files before shutting down, for example, by saving them to the D drive or a USB drive.
The basic principle of Seewo Deep Freeze is to create a system driver in the C drive directory. This driver has high privileges and loads before the operating system, restoring it to its previous state.
Shadow Defender
Shadow Defender is a well-established system restore software. Unlike other system restore tools, it creates a “shadow” of the current system. A major advantage of Shadow Defender is that you can enable Shadow Mode at any time.
You can choose whether to enable Shadow Mode during startup, including protecting all disks, protecting only the C drive, or disabling it entirely. Once inside Shadow Mode, you’ll notice a small icon on protected disk icons in File Explorer.
Other configurations for Shadow Defender are clearly explained in the settings page and will not be covered here.
Uninstalling Restore Software
When uninstalling these restore tools, be sure to first disable system protection in the software’s management window. You will then be prompted to restart. After rebooting, run the uninstaller to remove the software.
If you fail to disable system protection first, the restore software may restore itself after a restart, causing the uninstallation to fail.
Saving New Files
If you need to save new files on a frozen system, first disable system protection, save the new files to the previously protected partition, and then re-enable system protection.
Additionally, there is a well-known “expert software” in the field of system freeze restoration called Deep Freeze. However, this software is not free, and the author has not yet found a working cracked version.
Although configuring system restore on reboot can be cumbersome, it is far better than the distress of losing data due to system corruption or failure to boot. If school teaching computers or labs have such needs, consider using this type of software.
