Disabling Windows Update has bugs? Why not pause it for 2000 years first!
Windows Update Has Bugs? Why Not Just Pause It for 2000 Years!
Are you also plagued by Windows Update? A perfectly fine system suddenly has its C drive full after an update, new bugs appear, the update takes forever, and worst of all, updates can fail, causing system crashes and critical data loss. Seeing “Update and Shut Down” or “Update and Restart” on the power button every day feels like a nightmare.
Previously, I introduced a small tool called Wub (Windows Update Blocker) that disables Windows Update. However, using Wub to disable Windows Update comes with a series of issues:
- Cannot install Windows features
- Unable to download, install, or uninstall new Windows features in Settings
- Cannot enable or disable Windows features in Control Panel
- Microsoft Store becomes unusable
- Unable to download software from the Microsoft Store; errors occur when trying to download and install
Windows Update settings include an option to defer updates, allowing you to delay Windows updates for a few weeks.
So, is there a way to delay Windows updates until the end of time?
Today’s little tool has exactly that superpower.
WindowsUpdatePause
The tool is called WindowsUpdatePause. Open it, and you’ll see the following interface:

Enter the number of days you want to pause updates in the input box—for example, 999,999 days.
Click “One-click Modify,” and it will directly change the pause duration for Windows Update.
Then, in Settings under “Update & Security,” you’ll see that the deferral period has turned into several thousand weeks.
If you set too many days, the “Update & Security” page might fail to load. Please set a reasonable number.
To resume updates, simply click Resume updates in the Settings page.
