Microsoft’s Official Way to Install Windows

After all this talk, it seems I’ve never mentioned how Microsoft expects us to install the Windows system. (Chuckles)

So today, let’s briefly introduce the official methods Microsoft provides for installing Windows!

1. Current System is Windows 7 or Below:

Download the Windows 10 ISO disc image file. Use an extraction tool (such as 7-Zip) to extract the ISO file to a specified folder (I personally recommend not extracting it to the C drive). Double-click to run the extracted setup.exe. First, choose “Not now” for updates, then proceed with “Next” all the way through. When it comes to the option about keeping personal files and apps, choose based on your own situation.

Note: The “Keep personal files and apps” option only affects whether personal files on the C drive are deleted; it has nothing to do with files on the D drive. Therefore, you can safely keep files on the D drive.

After several restarts (it seems more restarts are required compared to using a PE-based installation), you’ll find a folder named Windows.old on the C drive. This folder contains data from your previous Windows installation, making it easy to recover your data or roll back to the original OS if something goes wrong during installation. If everything is working fine, you can delete this folder.

2. Current System is Windows 10 or Above:

Double-click to open the Windows 10 ISO disc image file (I personally recommend not placing the ISO file on the C drive). Directly double-click to run setup.exe, then follow the same steps as described in the first section.
